Personal Finance Journalist (Part-Time) - 4 days per week

Role Purpose

The Personal Finance Journalist will be responsible for creating informative and engaging content on financial topics as part of the Irish Independent’s new Money team. They will research and report on various financial matters, including personal finance, investments and market trends. The Personal Finance Journalist will provide readers with insights and advice on budgeting, saving, investing, debt management, and financial planning. They must be adept at breaking down complex financial concepts into understandable and actionable information for the general public.

This exiting digital role will span writing, video and audio.

 

Role Responsibilities (Overview)

  • Write, edit and present articles on personal finance topics, such as savings strategies, investment advice, retirement planning, tax tips, and insurance options.

  • Research and analyse financial products and services to provide accurate and unbiased reviews.

  • Interview financial advisors, industry experts, and consumers to offer a diverse range of perspectives.

  • Stay abreast of the latest trends, news, and developments in personal finance.

  • Collaborate with the multimedia team to create engaging content for various platforms, including videos and podcasts.

  • Engage with the publication's audience through social media and other interactive channels.

  • Ensure all content is fact-checked and complies with journalistic ethics and standards.

 

Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)

  • Proven experience in journalism, preferably with a focus on personal finance.

  • A passion for financial news and a commitment to journalistic integrity.

  • Excellent communication and networking skills to build contacts and sources.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and news cycles.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Technical

  • Strong understanding of financial markets, commitment to investment strategies and economic principles.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to convey complex information in an accessible manner.

  • Ability to represent the Irish Independent in a positive manner on broadcast media and at external events as necessary

  • Strong research and analytical skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of libel law.
