Mediahuis Emerging Talent (MET) Programme

Job Title: MET Multi-Media Reporter

Location: Dublin (*Hybrid)

Contract Duration: 2 years

 

This is an exciting opportunity to gain first-hand experience as a multi-faceted journalist. You will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of high-quality journalism, including audio and video, by working closely with our editorial teams who will support you alongside development and training.

 

The successful candidate must have a good news sense and passion for journalism.

You will be given the opportunity to identify, edit and post breaking news in a fast-paced environment.

 

You will also work as part of the Audio team, assisting producers, presenters, editors and journalists across Independent.ie and SundayWorld.com.

The Multi-Media Reporter will also learn how to film, create and edit video to complement their journalistic output.

By the end of the MET Programme, you will have a stronger news sense and be capable of working independently while taking care to ensure stories are verified, legally sound and fit for publication on digital platforms.

 

What you will be doing 

  • Learning how to write, edit and publish breaking news in a fast-paced environment

  • Monitoring several news platforms and social media simultaneously

  • Assisting with the planning and development of stories and online content

  • Carrying out your duties at all times in accordance with the Editorial Code of Practice and relevant professional and legal codes

  • Delivering content to tight deadlines

  • Developing your skillset in both video and audio journalism

  • Handling general assignment and breaking news across all platforms, as directed by the news desk

  • Attending press conferences, contributing ideas and asking questions

  • Training in interviewing people in a wide range of different circumstances

  • Working on all aspects of podcasts such as scheduling, guest booking, research, editing and scripting when necessary

  • Generating and developing ideas for the podcast/video

  • Editing audio/video pieces and preparing them for publishing

  • Writing SEO-friendly headlines and meta titles

Experience we would like you to have 

 

As someone who is passionate about journalism and reporting, it would be beneficial for us to be able to see some examples of your work. This could be in audio or video form, a personal blog, or anything you have previously published (even self-published)

 

We don’t want formal qualifications to be a blocker or sway our selection. So we will not be asking about your schooling or qualifications. It’s your passion we are interested in.

 

Salary

€28,080 per annum

 

*Hybrid working will be available after an onboarding and settling in period
