Job description
Job Title: General Reporter – Drogheda Independent (hybrid)
Reporting to: Group Editor
Role Purpose
The role of the general reporter is to report local news content from County Louth on the Irish Independent online and through print in the Drogheda Independent. The general reporter will report directly to the Editor, work closely with colleagues as part of a team, and will represent the Drogheda Independent, Irish Independent and Mediahuis Ireland to a very high standard.
The successful candidate will work in a hybrid model, with a combination of remote work and work from our Dundalk office.
Role Responsibilities (Overview)
Reporting as per markings from the Editor, focusing mainly on the Drogheda and wider Louth area
Local interviews and feature-writing to a high standard
Report at council meetings as per rota and provide a high standard of copy
Represent the Drogheda Independent at various local events, festivals, community groups etc.
Work closely with local photographers
Edit the content to a very high standard ensuring that all material published meets the legal and quality standards set out
Work closely with the Editor in developing new ideas
Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)
Must have high level of proficiency with P-Series Atex system (following familiarisation and training)
Must have a strong understanding of digital and print media content
Must have a full clean driving licence

Demonstrate an appetite to increase market-share and develop the Drogheda Independent and Independent.ie brands as the leaders in news coverage
Excellent communication skills required
Excellent writing and editing abilities
Ability to work on own initiative
Good computer skills
